I’m a no muss, no frills type of girl when it comes to my morning routine. I brush my teeth, wash my face, and brush my hair, but that’s about it. I don’t wear a lot of makeup, and I don’t do much to my hair. Maybe I’m lazy, or maybe I just prefer my sleep, but I can never bring myself to spend more than 20 minutes on myself in the morning (fancy evening events are a whole different story). If you are someone who spends a lot of time perfecting your appearance every morning, my question for you is, why? What’s your motivation? Don’t get me wrong, there’s nothing wrong with spending time to look perfect and feel beautiful because of it. But I want to challenge you to (at least every once in a while) embrace your imperfections and let your authenticity shine. I’ve found that when I’m okay with my red-hued face, the pimple on my chin, and the dark circles under my eyes (that just won’t go away), I don’t really care what other people may think of me. This, my friend, is the self-assured confidence that only comes when you are comfortable with who you really are. And let me tell you, with confidence like that, there’s nothing you can’t do!

4/6/2018 0 Comments 5 Things to Simplify your LifeIf you’re like me, your life could use a little more simplicity in it. But simplistic living can be daunting! What exactly does it mean and how do you achieve it? Naturally I turn to the internet for answers. But looking up the word “simplicity” online gives you a myriad of definitions, each more complex than the last. These include such statements as, “the state, quality, or an instance of being simple,” (okay) “freedom from complexity,” (interesting) and “absence of luxury, pretentiousness, ornament; plainness” (hmmm). While all these statements adequately define what simplicity means, they focus on depriving yourself of something in order to lead a more simplistic life. My 31 years on this earth have taught me that simplicity doesn’t always have to mean taking something away. Simplicity can also be achieved by adding beauty and goodness to your life; things that gives you more peace and fulfillment. It’s in this spirit and definition that I suggest the following five things to simplify your life: 1) Simplify your Morning Routine 2) Leave work at work 3) Surround yourself with friends that uplift you 4) Recharge yourself with alone time in nature 5) Just say no! I'll go more in depth on this topics in the next few posts. If you are craving a little bit of simplicity in your life, make sure you check back every Friday. Your journey to a more simplified life awaits! xoxo hb |
